I + I (Internet + Identity)

Unrealized documentary project.

This was a foray into standard documentary filmmaking. I was trying to explore the ways that experiences on the internet shaped peoples' identity or sense of self. It grew out of a fascination I have with people's stories of early internet experiences, especially when they hinge on a game or online community. These can be rich generative and exploratory spaces for folks, and I wanted a way to talk about it.

Looking back, I'm amazed that I started doing this with so little knowledge or planning. Like, somehow I knew to film the interview simultaneously from two angles, but not to hide the lav mic? Definitely the downfall of the project was that I hadn't learned the importance of preproduction. I conducted 4 interviews, but I didn't have any substantiative list of interview questions or any idea what I would do with the footage once I had it. But, it was fun and I had some good conversations!

No video link for this one, since all I have is uncut interviews.
